Top Uses for Coconut Oil

I’ve fallen in love with coconut oil. It’s such a versatile and healthy beauty staple. You can use it to tame your locks, clear and nourish your skin and you can even shave with it. Many people use coconut oil for cooking, but the truth is there’s so much more that this wonderful oil can be used for.

Here are the random things I use coconut oil for in my every day life:

Nourishing my hair:
My hair is naturally really frizzy and hard to tame. I like to deep condition my hair with some coconut oil and leave it in my hair for an hour or two before showering. Rinse it out with shampoo, follow with a light conditioner and presto – beautiful hair that seems to stay where it’s supposed to.

Moisturising my face:
Many people freak out when I say that I put oil on my face, but it actually clears up your skin. It’s one of the best ways to remove eye make-up, heavy duty foundation and anything else that might be coating your skin.

Conditioning your nails:
Coconut oil is a great moisturiser for anything you need and especially for your cuticles and nails. Rub some coconut oil into your nails and the surrounding areas, hey if you’re feeling crazy you can do the whole hand and leave for 15-20 minutes. Wash off and enjoy the super softness that is your new and improved hands. If you’re feeling very adventurous, you can moisturise your hands with a tablespoon of coconut oil and put some socks on your hands and sleep that way.

Oil pulling:
This is apparently a super ancient process for keeping teeth and gums healthy and disease free. Basically the premise is you use the oil to pull out toxins and impurities from your gums in your mouth. Take 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil and swish it around your mouth for 20-30 minutes, the longer the better. It generally takes a few weeks to see the benefits of oil pulling, but you should notice healthier gums and over time less problems with your mouth, gums and teeth.

Shaving:
You can use a generous layer of coconut oil to shave your legs. Simply apply it on generously, you want a comfortable layer of oil, and then shave. The bonus to this method of shaving is that once you’re finished, your legs are already perfectly moisturised. Perfect!

I am really enjoying the switch from harsh shaving foams and moisturisers that are laden with chemicals, to such a natural approach. Start adding coconut oil into your routine and I’m sure you’ll notice the difference.
