4 Benefits of Owning Your Own Business

I’m self employed and I love it – I think there are so many benefits to owning your own business, some that are obvious and some that you might only discover once you’re actually your own boss. If you’re thinking about taking the plunge to owning your own business or already half way there, here are four benefits to owning your own business that you might not have considered:

1. Flexible Schedule
I personally love having a flexible schedule – I don’t have to ask permission when I need to go to a doctor’s appointment, or if friends from overseas come to visit me I can easily rearrange my schedule so I can pick them up from the airport and spend as much time together as possible. This is such a benefit to my daily life, that I never take it for granted and think I would struggle in a traditional work environment. I’m lucky enough to make my income by writing content online, much like that available here rexoriginals.com which allows me the flexibility in my life that I crave.

2. More Time With Family
I knew really early on in life, that I wasn’t looking forward to trying to balance having children and a traditional career. I hated the idea of having to put my children in daycare all day while I was busy at work. One of the biggest factors that appeals to me about having my own business is that I can choose how much time I want to spend with my family. When my partner and I decide to start a family, as we’re both self employed, we’ll be able to decide how we want to share childcare between us. It’s such a luxury that I know many people could only dream of, but I’m so happy that’s the lifestyle we have created for ourselves.

3. Room for Growth
One thing I don’t love about traditional jobs is that often when business is going well, you don’t actually see any personal benefits. If you’re in a commission based role, then improved sales will result in a small improvement in your income, but when you own your own business or are self employed, extra effort will generally result in a big spike in your income. Whether you own a restaurant Franchise or operate online, it’s so nice to have your income go up when things are busier and you’re working harder.

4. Improved Job Satisfaction
I personally love working for myself – after all, if there’s something I don’t like I can change it. I can outsource the specific tasks I don’t enjoy or that are time consuming, and focus on the growth aspect of the business. I also can choose my own hours, which means I can work when I’m more productive and make the most of the hours I’m clocked in. There are some added stressors about being self employed, but overall I thoroughly enjoy it. The more I work at my business, the more I see it moving forward and the more opportunities I have.
