Vent’anni fa un incidente alla centrale nucleare di Cernobyl ha causato uno dei peggiori disastri della storia civile contemporanea.
Il fall-out radioattivo ha interessato oltre 1.500 chilometri quadrati di territorio tra Bielorussia, Ucraina e Russia e ha coinvolto più di sei milioni di persone. In molte regioni, soprattutto in Bielorussia, la popolazione vive ancora oggi a livelli di radioattività esorbitanti.
La centrale di Cernobyl ha cessato la sua attività nel dicembre 2000. Ma ancora non è stato realizzato nessun intervento di messa in sicurezza e il sarcofago che copre i resti del reattore esploso presenta evidenti segni di cedimento. E a quasi vent’anni dal referendum che ha decretato la fine del nucleare in Italia, c’è chi vorrebbe reintrodurlo anziché mettere mano a una seria politica energetica basata sulle rinnovabili.
Questo libro, attraverso racconti di storie vissute, vuole porre l’accento sulla necessità di mantenere vivo il ricordo di una tragedia che è ancora quotidianità per tante persone – a cominciare dai bambini, tra le principali vittime - e vuole indicare una strada diversa per il futuro dell’energia.

Twenty years ago an accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant has caused one of the worst disasters of civil contemporary history.
The radioactive fall-out of over 1,500 square kilometres of territory between Belarus, Ukraine and Russia and has involved more than six million people. In many regions, particularly in Belarus, the population still lives today in exorbitant levels of radioactivity.
The Chernobyl has ceased its activities in December 2000. But still not been made any effort to put into security and the sarcophagus covering the remains of the exploded reactor has clear signs of failure. And almost two decades since the referendum that decreed the end of nuclear power in Italy, there are those who would like to reintroduce hand instead put a serious energy policy based on renewables.
This book, through stories of stories lived, wants to emphasise the need to keep alive the memory of a tragedy that is still everyday life for many people - starting with children, among the main victims - and wants to indicate a different path for the future.
