Europe’s Romantic Hot Spots Revealed

Looking for a romantic getaway for you and that special someone? We’ve rounded up a few locations in Europe that are permeated with love and passion.

Champagne Country, France

For those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the more popular holiday destinations in Europe, head to northern France and enjoy the peace found in the world’s most famous vineyards. Immerse yourself in the rolling hills of the province, and sample some of the finest champagne with the one you love.

Alongside tours of wineries and the famous vast chalk cellars, the region has a whole host of other activities for you and your partner. Head to Épernay and Reims for traditional French cuisine and to explore the area’s centuries of history. For the adventurous couples, Champagne’s densely forested areas feature many trekking and mountain bike trails.

No visit to France would be complete, however, without a trip to some of the country’s most celebrated tourist hotspots. Paris, Monte Carlo and Cannes can all be enjoyed on one of the romantic European holidays offered through providers such as Imagine Holidays. From these destinations, you can then enjoy a visit to the province of Champagne by car or public transport, which will take no longer than an hour or two.

Santorini, Greece

Situated in the middle of the Aegean Sea, this unique, crescent-shaped island is the perfect destination for couples. Although known as Santorini today, it used to be named “Kallístē” – or “the most beautiful one” – it is no surprise that it is a hotspot for romantic getaways. The dazzling white towns exude a sense of tranquillity, even amongst the busier, summer seasons. The island’s capital, Fira, a city perched on a 400-metre-high caldera, encapsulates everything romantic Greece has to offer: panoramic views, striking clear blue seas, traditional food and heritage. Cable cars and donkeys can carry you and your partner up the steep cliff side to the city centre, where history lovers can explore the Archaeological Museum of Thera and the Museum of Prehistoric Thera.

Venice, Italy

The romantic nature of the city has long been recognised in literature; from Ben Jonson’s Volpone to William Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice and Othello. A gondola ride for two – however clichéd it may seem – is an essential Venice experience. Drift down the iconic canals, taking in the city’s Renaissance architecture. Head to Piazza San Marco to sample Italian cuisine, serenaded by street performers; meander until dusk and watch the sun go down, the square is a spot widely known for its stunning sunset views. Climb the bell tower to take in an aerial view of the city and –  on a clear day – views of the impressive Dolomite mountains. Finish off your romantic trip with a visit to Theatre La Fenice, and see a famous ballet or opera performance.

Paris, France

A collection of romantic European hotspots would not be complete without a mention of the “city of love”: Paris. From couples who enjoy art, culture and film to those who prefer food, heritage and architecture, France’s capital has something for every pair to enjoy. A romantic getaway to Paris is clichéd for a reason; a combination of atmospheric restaurants, softly-lit promenades and boutique hotels make Paris a go-to location for an amorous break. At night, the city comes alive. Take a tour of the illuminated landmarks, hit the Moulin Rouge, take a dinner cruise or – perhaps the most romantic – visit the iconic Eiffel Tower under the stars.
