New York: It’s Not Just About The Big Apple

When you travel to the state of New York, you probably only have one destination in mind: New York City! Sure, NYC is a fabulous place to spend a long weekend and is a great city of culture and history. But that’s not all there is to the state, you know! In fact, there are many other places you should try and see while you are in New York. Here are just a few of them.

Windham

Located in Greene County, the small town of Windham is a very popular destination for those who love to ski. In fact, many Windham rentals are situated right in the middle of the area’s best ski resorts. The rugged terrain makes the town popular with other extreme sports enthusiasts, especially mountain bikers. In fact, back in 2010, it hosted the World Cup Mountain Bike Race, which was the first time the famous competition took place in America!

Adirondack Mountains

The Adirondack Mountains were voted the best holiday destination in the whole of the US this year, so be sure to fit in a visit to this amazing place during your trip! It’s a fantastic place to go camping, hiking, and just generally exploring the great outdoors! Foodies also love it, as it is known for its excellent beers and wines. The Lake George region has three microbreweries which are producing some of the area’s best beers. For more tasty tipples, head to the Lake Placid region.

Letchworth State Park

For more hiking and camping, plan an excursion to the Letchworth State Park, which is often referred to as the Grand Canyon of the East! This is a great place to simply drive through and soak up the sights. If you visit during the winter, you will find lots of fun activities, from cross-country skiing to snowmobile rides. If you are staying overnight, you will find lots of great facilities and amenities, including a large public swimming pool!

Niagara Falls

Aside from New York City, one of the state’s other most iconic sights has to be Niagara Falls. These iconic waterfalls lend their name to the surrounding town, which is a great place to spend a couple of nights. It’s also very easy to pop across the border over to Canada for a day! After you have got up close and personal to the falls, you could take an underground boat ride through Lockport Cave or discover the area’s history at the Old Fort Niagara.

Buffalo

Located right on the shores of the famous Lake Erie, Buffalo is a buzzing city known for its neoclassical and art-deco architecture. Spend a summer’s day by the canal watching a musician or see some local artworks at the Burchfield Penney Art Center. There are also lots of food tours that show tourists the best place to grab a bite to eat!
