10 ‘Crazy’ Ways To Protect Your Health
We might not have a ton of money, we might not have a huge mansion or the recognition we think we deserve, but one thing many of us can say we have is our health. For how long? It’s important to begin protecting our health as early on as possible. The sooner we start taking the steps to protect our health, the better quality of life we’ll live both now and in the future. People only tend to realise what they’ve got once it’s gone, and this really isn’t something you want to happen when it comes to your health.
Protecting your health isn’t all about eating salads and drinking litres of water every day. Although getting your greens in and staying hydrated will surely help, there are other things you can do to make sure you’re as healthy as possible. Try these 10 ‘crazy’ ways to protect your health. They might not seem so crazy once you realise that they work!
Look At The Metaphysical Causes For Your Problem
Most people don’t realise that illness, injury, and other problems actually manifest themselves in our bodies from the things we’re feeling and ruminating over. For example, if you have a bad lower back, it could be that you have money worries you’ve been concealing. Look for the metaphysical cause of your problem by searching online, or by purchasing the book ‘You Can Heal Your Life’ by Louise Hay. Once you know the metaphysical cause of your problem, you can begin accepting it and eradicating it in the best possible way. This is a far more effective solution than medication!
Meditation is the practice of quieting the mind. Many people don’t realise that they are not their thoughts. They are the thing that listens to the thoughts, while thought after thought is played by some invisible deejay, either waiting to be entertained and reacted to or ignored so it can float off into the ether. Meditation quiets the voices and helps you to gain mental clarity. This can help in terms of both physical and mental illnesses! However, you must make sure you get into the habit of practicing meditation every day. This involves relaxing the body and not thinking about thinking for at least a few minutes each day. Some people find it easier to stare at a candle flame, as this gives them something to focus on and helps them to stop those pesky thoughts from seeping in.
Just build yourself up slowly and make sure you get into the habit of regular practice. It will change your life, but you need to make the decision to do it every day.
Think Positive Thoughts
Ok, so it isn’t as easy as walking around all day like some kind of Polly Anna proclaiming how great everything is when your health is falling apart. You really need to feel the positivity. If you feel like you have a rain cloud hanging over your head, it isn’t good enough to simply say ‘life’s great’. Remember, the way you feel will impact the way you think, and vice versa. They both come hand in hand. Sometimes, simply smiling and sitting up straight can be enough to lift your mood. Try to be as positive as possible and ban negative language from your vocabulary.
Again, this takes practice, but once you’ve mastered it it’ll make a huge difference. You’ll also come to realise that most people do nothing but complain and then wonder why the have so much to complain about!
Consider Where Your Problems Are Stemming From
As well as the metaphysical cause, think about the places in your life your problems could be stemming from. If you find yourself with migraines and sore eyes and spend 12 hours a day staring at a screen, you have your answer. If you’re plagued with stress and you know you’re taking on too much at work, it could be time to lighten your workload. It isn’t weak to need a break, or to ask to take on less. You need to allow yourself this for both your physical and mental well being. Many people are now realising the power that a mental health day can have on the mindset!
Look To More Holistic Therapies And Techniques
Don’t just pop some pills and expect everything to get better. You may be numbing your symptoms, but you’re not really doing anything for your problem. You need to make sure you care for mind, body, and spirit with more holistic therapies and techniques. Holistic therapies and techniques can help everything; depression, anxiety, insomnia, and so much more.
One holistic way to heal yourself is to start exercising and eating right, if you don’t already. Moving your body in a way you enjoy and putting foods that fuel and nourish into your body will be a huge help in making you feel better and giving you more clarity. If you do suffer with things like anxiety and insomnia, take a look at the things you’re currently consuming. If you’re a big coffee drinker, then you’ll probably want to cut back. Listen to your body. It sounds easier said than done, but seriously, listen to it. If you learn to quieten your mind through meditation and consider asking your body how you’re feeling, what you need, and what you can do to feel better, then you might just come up with some answers. It’s about listening to your intuition. We’ve all ‘had a feeling’ and then turned out to be right, haven’t we? Those feelings are there for a reason.
Cure Yourself With Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming is the practice of staying mindful while you’re asleep. It can take a lot of practice to get it, but once you do, you’ll be able to enjoy a whole new world while you sleep! You can visit people both dead and alive, find out things you’ve always wanted to know (some people report learning about their life partners while lucid dreaming), and even heal yourself. Charlie Morley, who is a teacher of this practice, actually healed his eyesight and the need for glasses after perfecting his lucid dreaming technique. This is largely because our ailments are usually caused by some kind of limiting belief that we have. When we lucid dream, it’s much easier to tap into the part of the brain that holds these limiting beliefs and change them. You could put an end to hair loss, hearing loss, or something else altogether. This isn’t to say you can’t try regenerative techniques and tissue engineering used for hearing loss alongside your efforts, for example. Just open your mind a little and try something new! You can learn more at the Ear Science Institute of Australia if you’re interested in the team finding a cure for hearing loss. Just bear in mind that lucid dreaming and changing those limiting beliefs could be the ultimate key to permanent healing.
The human body really is an incredible, magical thing.
Filter Your Water
Drinking a few litres of water each day is essential for staying hydrated and feeling energetic. However, tap water is not the way to go. If you know anything about fluoride, you’ll know that many areas in the world still contaminate their water supply with it, under the guise of it ‘being good for your teeth’. Why would the government want to help people keep their teeth clean through the water supply? It already sounds suspicious, right? This isn’t to start scaremongering, or anything. Just learn the facts behind fluoride and you’ll see why you should avoid it.
Make sure you filter your water. You can even filter the water you shower with to stop it being absorbed by the skin.
Cut Back On Meat
You don’t have to become a vegan, or even a vegetarian. Just cut back on red meat and you’ll automatically make yourself healthier. Red meat has been linked with many health issues. When you cut back you also protect the environment. Red meat produces two and half more greenhouse gas emissions than chicken or fish!
Many people like to do something called ‘Meat Free Monday’ which can be a lot of fun if you like to experiment with new recipes. You can make some really tasty dishes and you’ll likely be surprised that you don’t miss the meat! If you don’t want to do that, you could always just swap red meat for some tuna or salmon. It’s much better for your heart.
Protecting your health by slogging out out on the treadmill may not be the best thing to do. Wouldn’t you much rather get outside, take in some fresh air and enjoy our beautiful planet? Walking regularly will be wonderful for your health and your stress levels. Some fitness fanatics think they are healthy enough because they go to the gym, not realising that they aren’t actually getting enough steps in each day. Aiming for 8000-10,000 per day is a good idea.
Finally, what’s the point if we’re not really enjoying ourselves? Do more of the things you love, and try out the things you think you might like. Make your own clothes. Make jewelry. Go to a still life art class. Do whatever your heart calls for!
