Top 4 Tips for Moving House in 2021

2021 is a new year and many of us are excited to hit the ground running. If you’ve got a move planned this year, whether it’s across town, across the country or even across the pond, then there are a few things you want to keep in mind before the move. Moving normally is challenging enough, but the prospect of moving during a global pandemic can be downright overwhelming, but don’t worry – I’ve got you covered. These top 4 tips for moving house in 2021 will help you get everything organised without too much stress, so you can focus on getting settled in your new home. Here are my top 4 tips for moving house in 2021:

1. Consider Bringing in the Experts
Not everyone has the budget for movers, but if there is any chance you can spring out for them, it’s worth it. Packing, moving, and unpacking your belongings can be so exhausting, by the time you get to your new home there’s a chance you wont have any energy for unpacking and getting set up. If you’ve ever moved house, then you know how stressful moving can be, so bring in the experts and relax knowing they’re going to take care of the hard work for you. There are a number of different packages companies offer depending on your budgets, so I’m sure you can find one that works for you.

2. Consider Buying There
If you’re moving over a long distance, such as across the country or overseas, it may be more financially viable to buy new than to cover the shipping expenses. Obviously it depends on where you’re going and what you’re wanting to take, but it is worth mentioning. For example, it may be cheaper buying the best dumbbells once you’re settled, than taking the ones you have now.  If you’re going for a short term, it may even be worth renting your furniture or looking for a place that’s already furnished.

3. Don’t Forget About Your Health
Try to keep your health in mind in all aspects of the move from minimising how much contact you have with people, to thinking about how much contact your things have had with people too. It can be quite anxiety-inducing traveling during a pandemic, but with simple precautions you can keep yourself and your loved ones safe. If you’re traveling overseas for your move, I also suggest doing a Covid test on arrival to make sure that you haven’t been infected and wont put others at risk. There are also some great ultraviolet sanitising wands available, that you can take with you to help keep everything hygienic while on the go, click here to learn more.

4. Give Yourself Ample Time
In my experience, everything is taking just that little bit longer during Covid times. From unexpected cancelled flights, through to delays with shipping and packages arriving. For this reason I suggest budgeting extra time for the move where possible. If you can add in a few extra days or weeks to your plan, it will make a world of difference to allow you to take the move a little more slowly and to have time for the random things that crop up.

Moving is consider one of life’s most stressful events. Hopefully these 4 tips help ensure your move goes as smoothly as possible, even if you’re moving in the middle of a global pandemic.
