Things to Consider Before Buying a New Car

There’s nothing more fun than car shopping, in my opinion. Walking around car yards, making a list of your essential features, and test driving cars – I love the whole process! For me it’s a lot less stressful than looking for houses, and almost as rewarding. When searching for new cars, there are a few things to keep in mind. I’ve written this post to give you some tips of things you really should consider before investing in a new car, and there’s a handy infographic at the bottom of the post by Motorparks below so don’t forget to check that out!

1. Consider Your Budget
This seems obvious, but you really need to think about how much you can afford, especially if you’re looking to get a car on finance. Could you still make repayments if you lost your job? What about if your partner lost theirs? What if there was a family emergency? Just be certain you have an emergency fund set aside to make payments in case the worst happens.

2. Don’t Forget Safety
For me, safety is king. I’ll always choose the safest model if I am searching between two different types of cars. It’s easy to search safety ratings, so check them out online. You never want to think about what would happen if you have a big accident, but the truth is the type of car you have and the safety rating really can make all the difference in the case of an emergency.

3. Think of the Future
Cars are changing and I’ve seen numerous countries set out to have plans to ban petrol based cars within the next thirty years. If you’re buying a new car and hoping to use it for a very long time, it may be smart to consider purchasing a car that uses alternative fuels. If you don’t know much about alternative fuels or just are curious in which direction this technology is heading, please check out the infographic below:
