Tips for traveling with kids in Orlando
There are few places better for traveling with kids than Orlando. If you’re planning a trip, this post is for you. Here are some top tips for traveling with kids in Orlando:
Hire a car
If there’s one place where it’s a good idea to hire a car, that place is Orlando. That’s because Orlando public transport is not the greatest, and the traffic can quickly cause Ubers, Lyfts, and taxis to be come expensive. While the cost is a factor, if you rent a car in Orlando, you’re also saving yourself (and your kids) hours of inconvenience.
You’ll be able to pick up your car at the airport and drive straight to your hotel where you can freshen up, drop your bags, and even grab something to eat. Then, it’s easy to go wherever you’d like, and this freedom will massively improve how the whole family feels.
Prepare for the parks
If you’ll be heading to the theme parks, it’s a great idea to buy your tickets online in advance. Not only can this mean that you’re likely to get a better deal, but you’ll also be able to skip some of the lining up which can make the day feel much longer for all involved.
Do your research and find out which park will be best for your kids. If your children are young, DisneyWorld and Legoland are two great options. If they’re a little older, they’ll probably love Universal Studios. It’s a good idea to let your kids watch plenty of related movies on the lead up to your vacation since this will help them get excited and make sure they know who all the characters are.
Save in advance
This may sound obvious, but if you’re feeling stressed about money, this is guaranteed to impact your trip. Kids tend to spy plenty of things they can’t live without while on vacation, and this is particularly true in a place like Orlando which is tailored to families.
One of the best things you can do is to commit to only using your credit card in an emergency. Instead, make sure you can afford your trip by making small changes in the weeks and months leading up to the trip. By shopping frugally cutting down on dinners out, saving your spare change, and reminding the kids that you have a trip coming up, you’ll have much more money to play with when you’re in Orlando.
Take it slow
We’ve all seen those parents dragging their kids around the theme parks simply because they see it as a ‘once in a lifetime’ trip and they want their kids to get as much fun out of it as possible. Unfortunately, this tends to backfire with exhausted kids, tantrums, tears, and frustration (for all involved).
Instead, it’s well worth extending your trip and spending an extra day or two at the parks so you can take your time. One good way to get the most out of each day is to get up early and be one of the first people in the park so you can go straight to the most popular rides. Then, when it’s getting hot later in the middle of the afternoon, head back to your hotel for a break.
Plan in advance
If you rent a car in the airport, you’ll be able to see much more in a shorter amount of time. This can be a great option at the end of your trip- you may even choose to fly into Orlando and out of Miami so you can spend some time on the road.
