Wonderful Santorini

A few years ago I attended a wedding in Santorini and it was one of the most incredible places I’ve ever been. The bright blue water that was crystal clear, contrasted by the white of the houses is absolutely stunning. Sunsets here are unlike anywhere I’ve visited before – combine all of this natural beauty with seeing two of your favourite people sharing their vows and committing to each other – it’s no wonder Santorini is one of my favourite destinations in the whole world. It’s one of those places as famous as the Eiffel tower and just somewhere you have to set aside time to visit in your lifetime.

Santorini

Here are some things to do while you’re in this Greek gem:

Archaeological Museum

If you’re anything like me, you love museums. This Archaeological Museum is located near the cable-car station and houses a unique collection of finds from Ancient Thira (the old name for Santorini) as well as Akrotiri. It’s also home to some Cycladic figures as well as some traditional Roman and Hellenistic sculptures. While the museum itself is fascinating, you’ll notice that the museum is a bit old and tattered but don’t let that put you off the great collection.

Scuba Diving

What better way to enjoy the beautiful warm water than by scuba diving? Santorini isn’t the most famous in the world for scuba diving, but there’s a diverse and exciting array of marine life which makes scuba diving a really fun way to spend your time. There’s also a number of natural wonders under water in Santorini, volcanic rock.

Visit a Cave House

If you can, you should stay in a cave house – this is a really unique way to experience the true Santorini. Many of the cave houses have been refitted with modern appliances and styling, ensuring a comfortable stay. Browse Hotels4u to find a great range of Santorini hotels.

Byzantine Castle Ruins, Oia

These castle ruins are a great way to spend a few hours exploring the historic nature of Greece. Perfect for anyone, young or old, it’s easy to feel impressed by the history that took place here as well as how far we’ve come as a civilisation. Oia is a nice town to explore so come to the castle in the morning to so you can spend the rest of the day wandering around Oia.

Take the Cable Car

There’s a cable car up to the top of the hill, which will give you sweeping views over Santorini and that bright blue ocean. Be warned, the cable car does go pretty high so if you’ve got a fear of heights you might find it challenging – it’s worth it for the view alone. I really enjoyed my time in Santorini, Greece and look forward to my next visit there. Be sure to check out some of these highlights and I’m certain you’ll love this gorgeous island as much as I did.
