Falling Out Of Love With Your Home? Sounds Like You Need Some Relationship Counselling
Any relationship has its peaks and valleys and your relationship with your home is no different. In fact, your relationship with your home is a lot like your relationship with a spouse. At the start, you enter a honeymoon period. From the moment you laid eyes on them you knew you wanted them. There was something about them that drew you in like a tractor beam and you knew you had to have them no matter what it took. You were utterly enraptured with the good things about them, and could spend hours simply staring at them and taking in their majestic beauty. You didn’t mind the flaws. Heck, the flaws were part of their idiosyncratic charm and seemed simply to make them that little bit more perfect.
Buyer’s remorse
Then the doubt started to set in. You started noticing irksome new things that weren’t there before… or maybe they were and your enthralled mind simply glossed over them. Over time they seemed to demand more and more from you. No matter what you had to give, they always took more. Now they no longer seem fit for purpose, just a constant drain on your money, effort and resources. Now, you keep looking at those belonging to your friends and start noticing how much more attractive and efficient they are and how much happier your friends seem with theirs than you are with yours.
… Just so we’re on the same page, we’re talking about houses here! If you feel like you;re falling out of love with your home, it’s easy to feel like the relationship can’t be salvaged… But nothing could be further from the truth.
Make an effort
Let’s be honest… You no longer put the effort in that you used to. You’ve gotten a little too accustomed to the home and started taking it for granted. You may find that if you put a little more effort into your home, it might start being a little kinder to you.
Whatever the limitations of your home, there’s a great deal that you can do to spruce it up. If you feel like going all out you can call the Bayside Builders at Lowe Design & Build for a glitzy new refurb or you can simply try rearranging the furniture, resurfacing the floorboards and promising to be a little more diligent with your cleaning and tidying duties.
Sometimes all it takes is a little effort to make the familiar sexy and exciting again.
Remember the good things
Sometimes people need to be reminded of what made them fall in love with their home in the first place. It could be a particular room, the garden or even a particularly ornate fireplace. Whatever it is, you need to re-acquaint yourself with that special something. If that special something is no longer quite so apparent, perhaps you should invest a little time and effort into accentuating it with a coat of fresh paint or a modest refurb.
You deserve to feel happy and fulfilled in your home, but as with any relationship, it takes a little effort and perspective to realize that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
