Glowing Skin, Naturally

Doing battle with breakouts?  Skip the scary harsh chemicals and high prices of a drugstore arsenal and follow these tips for healthy, clear skin naturally.  Your face, and your wallet, will thank you.

Oil Cleansing Method

We realize the idea of putting oil on your face sounds like blasphemy, but hear us out.  Your skin naturally produces oil.  And it’s not oil that causes blemishes- it’s oil combined with many other factors, including bacteria, dead skin cells, and impurities brought from make-up, pollution, and other sources.  Cleaning your face with harsh chemical soaps strips the skin of the oil it produces naturally, and it responds by doubling its efforts in an attempt to protect itself.  Oil Cleansing Method, or OCM, uses oil to clean the skin, allowing the skin to find its own balance while breaking down oil that has hardened in your pores with impurities to cause blemishes.  Anyone who has ever used oil paints will understand the concept that it takes oil to clean oil – the same can work for your face. For radiant glowing skin, check out these step-by-step instructions.

Washing face

Exfoliate

Regular exfoliation helps prevent breakouts by removing dead skin cells that can clog pores.  Skip the harsh chemicals of expensive commercial scrubs by making your own.  Mix a heaping spoonful of sugar with a squeeze of lemon juice and a touch of olive or coconut oil to make a thick paste.  Wash your face and then apply the scrub, gently rubbing it in and concentrating on dry spots.  Rinse and enjoy the results.  The sugar and lemon will exfoliate while the oil adds a little moisture, leaving you with fresh, glowing skin.

Tea Tree Oil

No matter how careful you are, sometimes breakouts strike anyway.  Fight them off with a little dab of tea tree oil.  Tea tree oil has been proven as effective as benzyl peroxide in defeating acne, but without undesirable side effects like peeling, itching, irritation and reddened skin.  Just dab a little on blemishes before bed.  If the oil is too harsh for you skin, you can also mix a few drops with your cleanser or moisturizer – try mixing a little in with your OCM blend!

Healthy Habits

Ever notice that you start to breakout more just when you’re starting to get a cold? Your skin is your body’s largest, organ, so when your body is healthy and happy, so is your skin.  No amount of work from the outside can help if the inside isn’t healthy.  Make sure that you’re eating a healthy, balanced diet, try to fit some exercise in daily, and do your best to get enough sleep.  Healthy inside equals a healthy glowing outside.  Naturally.
